Leaving
behind hot and humid Mumbai, the British travelled up to the hills
where they built bungalows and churches and golf courses, and grew
stawberries, raspberries and gooseberries in their high altitude
gardens.
Hill stations around Mumbai range from well known and very popular
resorts such as Mahabaleshwar, Lonavla, Khandala and Matheran, to
small places where hill life has still not been too influenced by
visitors. All hill stations are very popular during the summer holidays.

stations which used to be the summer capital of the Bombay Presidency
during the British Raj. It is 200 kilometres from Bombay, and is

Mahabaleshwar still revolves, as it has done for generations, around
walking mainly from one view point to another. There are Elphinstone
Point, Kate's Point, Mumbai Point and Arthur's Seat, which is a
further 12 kilometers outside town.
From the plateau in Mahabaleshwar, there is a spetacular view of
the surrounding countryside and it is a very popular location with
film crews. From Mahabaleshwar you can visit the Lingmala, Chinaman
